The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Garcia-Margallo declared today that a unilateral declaration of independence would ‘condemn Catalonia to wander aimlessly through space without international recognition’ and would mean that the country would be ‘excluded from the EU for centuries of centuries’. Amadeu Altafaj, European Commissioner Olli Rehn’s chief of staff, used Twitter to respond to Margallo’s new threats.
Here’s Altafaj’s tweet:
“Hola! d’aixòòòò… que és aqui on es pot votar?” 🙂 #SpaceCatalans pic.twitter.com/cxtNwHFhkN

(Hey! Is this where we vote??)
Inspired by Altafaj, and using the hashtag #SpaceCatalans, many Twitter and Facebook users began to respond to Margallo:
