The President of the United States, Barack Obama, said today in a joint press conference with the British Prime Minister David Cameron that he would like Scotland to remain in Great Britain, but that this was a decision that was up to the people of Scotland, who will vote in a referendum on September 18th. Obama also said that he would like for Great Britain to remain in the European Union in order to keep having influence in Brussels.

When they asked him about the Scottish referendum, Obama answered, “The United Kingdom has been an extraordinary partner to us. From the outside at least, it looks like things have worked pretty well. We obviously have a deep interest in making sure that one of the closest allies that we will ever have remains a strong, robust, united and effective partner. But ultimately these are decisions that need to be made by the folks there.”
