Thanks to an agreement between Gowex and the Associació Professional de Venedors de Premsa de Barcelona i Província, more than 200 newspaper stands throughout the city will offer free wifi to passersby. The service will be inaugurated at 10-15 newspaper stands in time for the Mobile World Congress (MWC) although the company doesn’t foresee having the entire network online for several more weeks. The connection will be free twenty-four hours a day and will offer a premium plan for those who want to connect at higher speed or higher data plans.

In order to use the service, users should download the Gowex app (for Android and iPhone) and create an account. They should also be able to receive the .freewifigowex signal on their mobile device when they’re close enough to a participating newspaper stand. Once connected, they’ll be transferred to the validation site where it will be necessary to sign in in order to take advantage of the service.

With the same name and password, the user will be able to connect to the network as many times as they like and browse for free in the more than eighty cities that have Gowex free wifi, including Madrid, New York, Paris and San Francisco.
