Scytl is a Catalan multinational specializing in electronic voting and the electoral market in the digital era. It is a world leader in the sector and has offices in thirty-five countries and its headquarters in Barcelona. The company is in charge of tallying the votes for the upcoming European elections in May. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, eyeing the company’s potential, has decided to invest more than 40 million dollars through his company Vulcan Capital. It is the first investment in Europe for the United States investment fund.

It’s also possible that the Catalan multinational Scytl will be chosen to manage the electronic vote for the referendum for Catalan independence that the Catalan Government will call this year on November 9th. In an interview with El Punt Avui, Scytl’s CEO, Pere Vallès, said that they were prepared to take on the electronic vote of a referendum like the Catalan one. Asked what benefits including an electronic vote option might have, Vallès said that “if what you’re looking for is to facilitate a high turnout, electronic voting is the answer, especially if you make the option available for an entire week preceding the election”. In addition, he explained that “electronic media makes it so that you are not dependent on external elements, and you’re more autonomous”.
