Carles Boix is the Robert Garrett Professor of Politics and Public Affairs in the Department of Politics and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He is also a member of the Catalan Government’s National Transition Advisory Council (CATN) and of the Wilson Initiative, and is an respected authority on comparative politics at an international level.

On Tuesday, Boix was interviewed on #CatalanTalk, the Twitter-based English language interviews from VilaWeb Global that are (mostly) simultaneous translated into several languages, including Catalan, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, and Italian.

Boix spoke of the erroneous comparison that the Spanish government has purposely made between the case of Crimea and Catalonia’s independence process. He also commented on the civic character of the Catalan people and the concept of “social capital” and why it’s necessary for a strong democracy. Finally, he spoke about his vision for a transparent democracy for a future Catalan Republic.

You can find the Catalan version of this interview on VilaWeb.cat, and all seven language versions at http://www.catalantalk.com (once they are completed, often simultaneously, and usually within a few days of the interview).
