The Catalan National Assembly continued its campaign launched last week to internationalize the Catalan independence process by unfurling a huge 50 x 150 foot (15 x 30m) poster addressed to the presidents of the European Commission and the European Parliament, Jean Claude Juncker and Martin Schulz, respectively. The message: Catalans will vote for freedom next November 9th in the referendum on the independence of Catalonia. The event, which took place in La Ràpita, in the Ebre Delta region, gathered more than 500 people, who also formed a giant letter V as a symbol for Votar (Vote), Via (Way), Voluntat (Will), and Victòria (Victory). Irene Fornós, the coordinator for the Catalan National Assembly in the Terres de l’Ebre (Territory around the Ebre Delta region) and Josep Beromeu “Polet”, well-known Delta activist, both participated.

A message to the world

Sunday’s event was part of the ANC’s program that will take place throughout the summer. In addition to creating massive letter Vs throughout the country, they will also unfurl ten huge posters with messages directed at world leaders who will be key to achieving international recognition of the Catalan cause. In addition to Barack Obama, Jean Claude Juncker and Martin Schulz, the remaining posters are addressed to Angela Merkel, François Hollande, David Cameron, Matteo Renzi, Ban Ki Moon, Dilma Roussef, Papa Francesc and Fredik Reinfeldt.
