He was born Robert Allen Zimmerman, but he's better known as Bob Dylan, the internationally famous singer and one of the most influential of the last half century will perform in front of an audience of 8,000 this coming Sunday in Andorra.
The concert, starting at 9:30 pm at the Prada de Moles d' Encamp football stadium, is part of the US artist's world tour in which he is presenting his latest album, 'Modern Times'. Dylan is also expected to perform some of the more legendary numbers from his long and prolific career, during which time he has released 32 albums. The concert in Andorra will be the first of a series he will play on the Iberian Peninsula, the last of which will take place in Lisbon on 7th July. Five days earlier, on 2nd July, Dylan will perform in the Valencian city of Alicante. His tour schedule does not include any concerts in Catalonia or in the Balearic Islands. The Andorra concert comes less than three months after Dylan was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for his profound impact on popular music and American culture. It was the latest distinction given to a living legend of contemporary music.
Political Songs…Born in 1941 in Duluth (Minnesota, USA), Bob Dylan began performing while at the University of Minnesota from where he moved to New York with the idea of dedicating himself fully to music. A fan of the leading folk singer Woody Guthrie, Dylan's early records included anti-establishment and political songs including some that would become classics such as 'The Times They Are A-Changin', 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' and, of course, 'Blowin' in the Wind', an anthem of the pacifist and human rights movements in the US during the 1960s.
…and Poetic Songs
+ 'Like a Rolling Stone' was named the greatest song of all time by US magazine Rolling Stone.
In 1965 Dylan released 'Highway 61 Revisited', which included 'Like a Rolling Stone', considered the best song of all time by the US magazine Rolling Stone. Dylan adopted a more lyrical, less political tone around that time, and he started to introduce rock elements into his folk style. In fact, the singer is seen not just as a great figure who gave fresh impetus to folk but also to rock, a genre he enriched with his profound lyrics that were often very poetic.
A Music Legend
+ Dylan is a living legend of contemporary music.
In all, Bob Dylan is a real living music legend. His name appears in the select list of the 100 most important people of the 20th century published by the US magazine Time. Besides being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, Dylan has received numerous distinctions including Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters from France, a Kennedy Center Honor (one of the most prestigious awards in the performing arts in the United States), and the Prince of Asturias Prize for the Arts.
