The Catalan National Assembly (ANC) announced today that it will present the “gigaphoto” of the Catalan Way at 4:30pm (Barcelona time CET) on the afternoon of April 1 at a special website: http://www.gigafoto.assemblea.cat/

The Catalan Way was a massive demonstration in favor of the independence of Catalonia which took place on September 11, 2013. More than 1.6 million people participated by holding hands from one end of Catalonia to the other, a distance of about 250 miles. Photographers in each segment of the demonstration took pictures of everyone who participated and volunteers have been piecing the more than 118,000 photographs together into a massive gigaphoto. The Catalan Way itself was divided into 778 segments of a half kilometer each (about 1640 feet), and the photos from each segment take up 2 gigabytes of storage space.

The ANC has released an introductory video which you can view below. (The text says “On April 1st, find your place in history.”)

The ANC is also encouraging participants to tweet the picture in which they appear, accompanied by the hashtag #ElMeuLlocalaHistòria [My place in history]
