Two prestigious journals that analyze international relations have both—in their first issues of the year—remarked upon the Catalan referendum as one of the major events of 2014. Both publications paint a very rosy picture. Politique Étrangère is a quarterly journal from the prestigious Institut français des relations internationals [French Institute of International Relations] and the US-based World Affairs Journal is one of the oldest publications in the world, having begun circulation in 1837.
The French journal offers a complete dossier on the issues facing Europe with the Scottish and Catalan referendums and the Belgian elections, given the possible victory of the Flemish independentists. Carles Boix, Professor of Princeton University and member of the National Transition Advisory Council, and J.C. Major, of the Col·lectiu Emma, have written an article (behind a paywall) titled “La marche de la Catalogne vers l’autodétermination’ [Catalonia’s advance toward self-determination].
Journalist Xavier Vilà published ‘The Domain of Spain: How Likely is Catalan Independence?‘ (also behind a paywall) in the American World Affairs Journal.
