Si la paciència és una virtut, llavors, clarament, l’Associació de Futbol de Gibraltar (GFA) ha demostrat ha posat a prova el refrany. Ha estat una llarga lluita, amb molta cura i amb una gran quantitat de feina feta. El ministre en cap Fabian Picard va reconèixer ahir, amb justícia, el coneixement jurídic de l’advocat de Gibraltar Michael Llamas i a ell cal sumar-hi els esforços molt constants i pioners d’un altre advocat, Joey Nunez.
Però aquest és realment el resultat d’un esforç i la perseverança d’un equip. Esperem que Espanya comenci ara a distingir entre l’esport i la política, i en aquesta mateixa lucidesa, s’adoni que Gibraltar i la seva gent no cerquem res més que viure les nostres vides. És Espanya qui fa de l’esport una qüestió de guanyar o perdre un matx polític, no Gibraltar.
Les felicitacions han vingut de personalitats com el ministre per a Europa David Lidington i de molts gibraltarenys que han celebrat de manera pacífica la capacitat, igual que Miss. Món, de fer veure que aquells tan petits com nosaltres, també podem brillar.

If patience is a virtue then, clearly, the GFA have proven the staying power to test the saying.
It has been a long very careful struggle which saw a great deal of work. Chief Minister Fabian Picardo yesterday rightly recognised the legal skills of Gibraltar lawyer Michael Llamas and to that one must add the very steady and pioneering efforts of another lawyer, Joey Nunez.
But this is truly the result of team effort and restrained perseverance to get the principle across.
Hopefully Spain will now begin to distinguish between sports and politics and, in that same lucidity, realise that Gibraltar and its people seek nothing more than to live our lives. It is Spain that makes simple sports a win or lose situation and political score, not Gibraltar
The congratulations have flowed from such leading figures as Minister for Europe David Lidington and many Gibraltarians have quietly enjoyed being able, as with Miss World, to signal that small as we are, we really can shine.’
