The V is taking social networks by storm. Major figures from the economic, academic, journalistic, cultural and political spheres have added a V to their Twitter names to celebrate the human V which will be formed on the Catalan National Day, bringing to mind the V for ‘victory’ called for by the Catalan National Assembly (‘Assemblea Nacional Catalana‘). They have done so by replacing letters like ‘u’ or ‘b’ – or even ‘m’ and ‘j’ – with a capital ‘V’. In addition to adding a V, some individuals have also used their Twitter names to indicate where they will be standing in the human V this September 11th.

The move has been embraced by active Twitter users, like economist Xavier Sala-Martín –who has dubbed himself XaVier Sala-i-Martin— writer Màrius Serra —MàriVs Serra— and essayist and former President of the CatDem Foundation, Agustí Colominas —AgVstí Colomines. Others who have recently jumped on this bandwagon include economist and Advisory Council for the National Transition (‘Consell Assessor per a la Transició Nacional’) member Germà Bel —germà Vel— as well as economist and Òmnium President Muriel Casals —mVriel Casals.

Major press figures to have followed in their footsteps include journalists Jordi Graupera —Vordi Vraupera, Francesc Marc-Álvaro —Francesc-Marc ÁlVaro, Vicent Partal —V icent partal, Tian Riba —tian riVa, and Liz Castro —Liz Castro V!.

Members of Parliament from the Republican Left (ERC) party have followed suit, including Marta Vilalta —IVIartaVilalta #SíSí— and Alba Vergés —Alba Vergés #SíSí #V–, while CiU MP Àngels Ponsa has chosen to precede his name with a V —VÀngels Ponsa i Roca. ERC MP Marc Sanglas has opted to include the segment of the V where he will be standing in his Twitter name —Marc Sanglas Tram21–, as has CiU MP and Tortosa Deputy Mayor Meritxell Roigé —Meritxell Roigé TRM2. Similarly, CUP MP David Fernández has rebaptized himself David #CUP Tram26 #V in order to call for increased participation in the upcoming V-day.
