‘Most businessmen agree on the referendum process. There are exceptions in some large companies (…), but on the other hand, business is business, and if Catalonia and its infrastructures go well there is no problem’. This is is the stance taken by Joan Amorós, secretary general of Ferrmed, a lobby established in Brusells in order to implement a train network all over Europe. Amorós explains in this interview why Europe needs to have a strong network of railway transport, the difficulties he has had with the Spanish government and how Catalan businessmen are facing the referendum process.

According to Amorós an independent Catalonia ‘would be economically viable’ although when he travels to Europe he has witnessed a negative reaction from Europeans. Once things are calmly explained, though, it’s easier for them to understand. Amorós also explains in the long version of the interview his experience with Japanese business culture when he worked for Nissan Motor Ibérica. There the employees had more say in decision-making processes than other cultures have: ‘In the end, who knows the job better than anyone else? The people doing the work. ‘
